Review 1 : My First Laptop
Having recently decided to replace my desktop with my first ever laptop i contacted a friend who runs his own IT business for advice. He carries out work for a number of companies and has often done IT work for me. I indicated how much i was willing to pay and asked him to look at computers on amazon and suggest a few models that may suit me. He identified 5 models 3 of which were within my price bracket and 2 above. In the long run i decided to go for the above model which was above my budget and have no regrets in doing so.
The desktop was an HP Compaq on windows 7 and the laptop is on windows 8. There is far more information on it than expected and i found that i had to learn new procedures compared with the desktop. I have been using it for around a month now and although i haven't yet explored it's full potential i am very pleased with the performance to date.

Fast, efficient, good display and clear audio.

Windows 8 is AMAZING if you spend half an hour reading the manual and understanding how to use it properly. I would consider myself quite computer literate and was dumbfounded at first when there was no Start menu on the desktop but just read the manual on windows 8 basics and you will love it in 2 days guaranteed!

When handling high workloads it powers through them with the aid of the high amounts of RAM. Good value laptop with just the right size
I bought this laptop after my EEE PC crashed last year. I was looking for a small laptop, with a bit more power than the general Atom fare and good battery time. The DM1 ticked all my boxes. It is a small unit with good build quality. The screen is better than what most netbooks offers, though it still isn't too great, for the money it's a good deal. What stands out is the quality of the keyboard. Usually I do not like chiclet keyboards as they offer no travel and the sensation during typing is flimsy. HP however delivers a nice, crisp experience. Typing is pleasant and fast and although it doesn't equal the experience of a decent full keyboard, it is just as good as any other laptop I have used. This is neither a laptop nor a Netbook. it's somewhere inbetween with it's 11.6" display. I've had some minor issues not so much with the unit itself, but with HP. I was planning on purchasing the Acer Aspire 11.6" with the 1Ghz processor but it's been solidly sold out over christmas. I put it off for a month at least until I grew impatient and hastely purchased this unit without researching the details. Like many people, I'm not that fond of Windows 8 and was planning on installing my own copy or Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. Sadly though, HP does not provide windows 7 drivers and have no plans on releasing drivers for anything else but windows 8. Acer, Lenovo, Asus all produce similar 11.6" unit with the same AMD dual core E2-1800 processor (for the same price) and they all provide windows 7 drivers. the onboard vga is excellent,the cpu is average,and it has 1600mhz ram that boosts a bit overall performance
the screen is also quite good,
the battery performance is beyond godlike!with this amazing amd apu the consumption is minimal.

the things i didnt like are the touchpad buttons that are totally crap,and the average keyboard.
also the worse thing of all are the hdd activity led that is on the right side of the laptop and its not visible from any other side.

be advised that it doesnt have an optical drive(didnt care though)
