Review 1 : Perfect
People seem to go for the lower spec or higher spec version. This all the + stuff already reviewed but the middle ground which is what we wanted for general office work, internet, e-mail and skype and perhaps a little image manipulation. This laptop is beautifully presented and does everything perfectly. Samsung are always great laptops for this kind of work. The keyboard is a pleasure to use and the screen is fantastic but not matt finish which always cost a bit more.
Review 2 : A excellent buy - keyboard fine!
I was a little put off by the reviewer who said that the keyboard had been squashed up to fit in a numeric keyapad as i would rarely need to use one of these. However the spec seemed to offer the best value for money so I ordered it anyway.

The keypad is actually the same size as it is on my present laptop which doesn't have a numeric keypad - 11 inches across. The numeric keypad fits in as well because the speakers are above the keyboard whereas on my present laptop they are at the side.

It is also almost silent and doesnt get unbearably hot when I have it on my lap unlike my present laptop (not a Samsung!)It is very easy to set up and the screen resolution is excellent.

It is also light for its size. I am very happy with it.

Fantastic laptop! I've only had desktops up till this and was amazed at how light it is. Some reviews mention the glossy finish being a little frustrating, I wouldn't say that but I use a normal mouse half the time anyway. Keyboard is great, well spaced out. Graphics are good as is sound and it seems great value for money.

Review 2 : Top laptop!
This is the second Samsung R580 that I've owned. The first one was, alas, stolen. This model with a slightly improved spec (faster processor, more memory, bigger hard drive and 64bit OS) has made a good laptop even better. It is hard to think how I might reasonably expect it to be improved. The only two things that I have come up with are the battery life and the delete key. I would prefer the latter to be a little larger. I use my laptop mostly at home but when I do go out I would have liked the battery to last a little longer. Otherwise (other than the usual crapware) I can give this machine my unreserved recommendation.

Okay, here it is. The only notebook that can compete with the ueber-stylish MacbookAir.
Let me start with a couple of limitations. If you can deal with these, then this might be the notebook of your choice.
1. No VGA connection. MicroHDMI is included, but you will need an adaptor to connect monitors or projectors.
2. HD is currently limited to 128GB, which gives you around 100GB for free usage, the rest is reserved for some kind of recovery partition.
3. No UMTS module. I dont really encountered a problem with this. Traveling a lot, but most places have (Airports, Hotels, Offices) Wifi anyway. I carry a UMTS stick as back-up but never had to use it. However some people seem to have real issue with that if I read some other reviews on the net.
4. Price is definetly designed for the higher income levels. If you are on a budget, take some other laptop. You might get similiar specs and more connectivity for a lower price in most other machines. If you want a...

I bought this laptop because I admired the idea of a Macbook Air but just didn't want to be a part of the Apple PR rollercoaster.

I am giving my honest opinion of this machine - I know this means I will get negative votes but I wouldn't want to mislead people.

1ST GOOD POINT - this is a FABULOUS LOOKING DROP-DEAD GORGEOUS MACHINE - it has sensuous curves and is not only a refreshing change from the look of a Macbook Air but is really quite different from any other laptop I've seen. People complain aobut the fingerprint magnet areas of the machine but honestly, it's a pleasure to give it a bit of a polish occasionally; well, really quite often.

2ND GOOD POINT - the KEYBOARD IS A CHICLET TYPE, IS POSITIVE AND A DELIGHT TO USE and is BACKLIT! The Macbook Air's isn't and I really couldn't live without this now
