Product Description

A great all rounder!
I purchased one of these at the tail end of last year, to fulfil my "business as usual" requirements. The spec was massive at the time: 8gig RAM, 2gig graphics card. 6 months later this laptop has not failed to impress. A faultless 17" display and the 64bit version of Windows runs amazingly quick / smooth - with boot up times of less than a minute. I wanted to try the graphics card out on this little beasty and purchased "Skyrim" to see how I got on. The game is an absolute pleasure to play on this machine and the hardware manages the game effortlessly. Another plus point is that when the laptop is runnning graphics at full throttle and the cooling fan is running at full tilt, the unit itself stays relatively cool (unlike some laptops which are literally untouchable after they've been running for a while). In summary, a well built and well specced laptop. Buy one!

Review 1 : Great value and decent performance
Had the laptop for a few days now, and I'm no tech-head so I'll leave the more complex reviews to someone else, but for build and specs the laptop's great value. The build quality is pretty good from what I can see with an island keyboard with full numberpad as well. The laptop's pretty light (for a 17") and there is no visible shoddy craftmanship. Obviously time will tell for the build quality though, so I'll be sure to edit this review if the laptop ever breaks down. The specs are enough to handle some new games (from new games I've tried: Crysis 2 works, Bioshock 2 doesn't), and to have blu-ray on such a relatively cheap PC is amazing (especially at a time when a lot of brands seem to be moving back to DVD-RW drives to cut costs). The only criticisms I have are:

a) The touchpad multitouch features are terrible. Fortunately these can easily be turned off, so my advice would be to turn it off and pretend it never existed. Basic mouse functions on the touchpad are...
Review 2 : 2 out of 2 laptops had faulty sockets
It seemed to be a very decent budget laptop on paper, and in terms of performance/screen quality it is indeed. However, two out of two laptops I tried had faults with side sockets.

The first unit I received had a faulty power socket when it wouldn't charge properly. I was able to have it replaced immediately (great CS from Amazon!) and was a happy camper again. Two months have passed and yesterday while listening to music on my headphones I noticed that one channel is breaking. Today it doesn't work at all, I only have one channel. Tried different headphones and of course it's the headphone jack. Note that I am a very careful user and don't mistreat the laptop in any way, I use it for graphic design, multimedia and browsing. Both faulty sockets were located on the right hand side of the laptop.

I am very disappointed and I am not looking forward to exchanging it again or waiting to have it repaired.
