Nice little laptop, unfortunately not suited to my needs
I bought this about a month ago because my old laptop was breaking and I wanted something a bit faster and a bit more portable. It's a great little machine; very sleek and light but unfortunately it just wasn't quite fast enough for me. I have returned it and am searching for something a bit more suitable.

Review 1 : Excellent Amazon Buy
I have found this laptop/notebook to be excellent, everything is explained as you go along and is very easy to follow. Being a woman in my late sixties I was concerned that it would all be gibberish to me but not at all. I am delighted with my laptop and also find it fun to use. I bought this product from Amazon because I know they are a trustworthy company and they also deliver when they say they will.
Review 2 : Excellent buy that met my needs
This is my second Samsung laptop and a brand I will stick to. I reluctantly retired the last one thanks to Norton messing up the operating system. I love the fast boot up not as instant as a smartphone but means I use it. I can still watch DVDs unlike other 'ultrabooks, but you need to download extra software. The screen great and looking to being to work outside next summer. And it's light enough to take on the train unlike the brick provided by employer.

Although I accept that to the purist the laptop maye doesn't fulfil the strick definition of an Ultrabook, for me it comes close enough and I am happy to accept that it is slightly thicker, but still quite slim, for the benefit of having a CD/DVD drive. It does everything I expected of it and the fast boot really pleased me aftet my old Sony which was taking an eternity. Review 1 : Boring in a good way
This laptop is boring in a the best way possible. By that i mean everything just works. The first computer i have ever had where i did not wind up having to reconfigure everything. No excitement to find the right driver, no reinstalling the OS, no random hardware failure, it just does exactly what it says on the tin.

A few points for the prospective buyer: the screen is great you can use it in broad sunlight comfortably. The battery lasts 4-5 hours when working, 3 hours with multimedia. 1.8 kg is surprisingly heavy, if i bought it again i would take the 13" screen version which is considerably lighter. The option to upgrade to SSD at a later stage easily was also key to choosing samsung. Although many reviews on the internet rate this machine as pretty average, the price when considering cash back is sooo much lower than the competition, taking the samsung was ultimately a no-brainer!

NB if you are an ubuntu user careful: the laptop is not compatible with wubi...
Review 2 : awesome piece ! A WOW
I could have gone for some other brands like ASUS, MAC, Toshiba, acer etc, but the specs and VAT back promotion lured me.
Best abt this ultrabook are the specs in budget price. USB 3.0, 14" 300 nit display with Media drive, touch pad are just to talk few.
I prefer windows rather than MAC, because I have to do many day to day work and MAC is not that friendly compared to windows and i can find only 30% software for MAC compared with Windows.

Quality & Style
Seems well-made and looks stylish. Light(ish) and noticeably more compact than 15.6", without screen seeming too small (screen is actually good). Fast start up - no doubt helped by SSD (not available for user storage) - and performance from fairly modest i3 processor more than adequate - good , in fact - for my needs (multiple office applications, multiple browser windows mainly - no noticeable difference from my more powerful desktop used in this way). Keyboard has well-spaced (chiclet) keys and although not as positive as a "proper" keyboard is perfectly satisfactory. I found touchpad too sensitive in "single tap" mode and have disabled just that mode but otherwise it seems as good as most touchpads I've used (scroll, zoom, page turn etc work well). Does not come with too much "bloatware" and the supplied Samsung software (including recovery disk and partition) seems well-chosen. Battery life OK for the way I want to use it (4+ hours I've found). Overall very pleased...

I have now had this laptop for 2 weeks and can say it is an amazing one and well worth it too.
I ordered it Thursday night and got it on Saturday morning with standard free delivery.

The only annoying thing about it is the internet. When I got mine I got really crappy download speeds. I was downloading at kb/s having 100mb broadband. Obviously there was something wrong. After a day of researching this problem ,(and I even got to the extent where I was about to return it), I found out that you need to update the wireless driver which you can download from Intel. This pushed the speed right up. This is to let others know about this fault. Also do not be fooled when Samsung is telling you that your wireless driver is up to date, it lies!

Other then that, it has a great body and firm hinges especially compared to my previous Vaio. The mousepad is way too big but I don't mind! It also allows multi-touch. The keyboard is just like a mac keyboard too. The battery...
