Very quick laptop and great size. The two main reason it was bought to be honest. Was hesitant on the very low storage in the 128gb ssd but thought the added speed of it being an ssd would make up for it. Be warned that your 128gb has under 65gb available after OS and the bloat ware acer have added which is crazy. Still though if u don't mind using an external drive its a great little machine perfect if your on the move with it a lot, great battery life if all your doing is surfing and using word or excel.

This is a 'first impressions' review of the Acer Aspire S3-391 13.3-inch Ultrabook (Intel Core i7 3517U 1.9GHz, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, 20GB SSD, LAN, WLAN, BT, Webcam, Integrated Graphics, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit)

The exact model is the Aspire S3-391-73514G52add - NX.M1FSI.002.

I looked at other ultrabooks, such as the Asus Zenbook UX32A, but this seems to ship with only a Core i5 processor and is higher priced. The Acer Aspire S3-391 model I chose is slightly cheaper and has a 3rd generation Ivy Bridge i7 3517U - so simply on GPU performance, it is a better buy for the money.

I also considered the Lenovo Ideapad U310, but these have had wifi problems according to several reviews and forums.

I thought about going for the bigger Acer Aspire Timeline M3 with a 15.6 inch screen and...
Review 2 : slim, light and decent build, but some points to keep in mind.
I travel most weeks with laptop in backpack, this new laptop has made my travel a joy with its ultra-slimness and lightness. With all the good there are some down points to consider.
1. It has no network adaptor, so get a USB one if you need wired.
2. It only has 2 USB ports, so get a hub if you need more.
3. It has Bluetooth, and I tried a blue tooth mouse but it constantly went into sleep mode despite the Acer BT settings not supposed to be doing that.
4. It only has 4GB RAM and that's your lot as these are soldered direct to the motherboard, this latter point took me by surprise as I had hoped to go to 8GB, but it just abaout manages my needs with 4GB
5. The CPU is Core i7, but my old HP had a Core i5 and was faster than this Acer, although i have removed all the nonsense apps installed by Acer and now it seems much better.
6. The wireless net card takes around 2-3 minutes to connect, so far from being fast as described its possibly the slowest laptop...

Review 1 : Bit skeptical at first
I wasn't sure about Windows 8 at first because I had read many reviews about it and a friend said it wasn't great either. But actually I quite like it now. The laptop boots up really quick which is probably my favorite thing about it, and the keyboard is really nice to use. All the sockets are at the back which is quite annoying, but the on/off button is pretty neat.

The sound from the speakers isn't bad, and the overall design is very sleek, the material of the casing really nice to touch, it's quite interesting actually (you'll know what I mean if you buy one).

I bought this laptop for gaming, not any really demanding games, but so far it hasn't let me down and the game I play (league of legends) looks great on it. I wanted a laptop that I could play games on take with me when I go on holidays or something, which is why I went for a 15" screen, and for what I want it's pretty much perfect.

It looks good, feels good and solid and I have to say I would struggle to justify spending nearly twice as much for a similar spec macbook air

Review 2 : good laptop
I had a sony vaio 15 inch laptop for home use, and an asus eee pc 1201 net book for travel. so i decided instead of having 2 laptops, to have just one that is light enough for travel, but with a screen wide enough to work comfortably with long word files. ACER s3 was the choice.

have had it for 1 month. screen is good. light and easy to use. I am quite pleased. BUT - the battery is nowhere near 6 hours. for normal use - internet browsing and word - it is more like 4 hours. also the keyboard is a bit uncomfortable - I make a lots of typos. either still have to get used more or it is not fully comfortable...

another minus is the fact that USB plugs are in the back of the laptop. whenever you need anything you need to close the screen and then turn the laptop to plug a usb key or anything you need. quite uncomfortable.

this being said - i would still buy S3 for these money. but hope future version would have USB elsewhere, better battery and better...
