Two faulty laptops in a row
I am on my second R830-182 in two weeks, with the second to be replaced today. Both R830-182's have had major faults. The fan on the first laptop was stuck in 'high rotation' mode and the machine had to be replaced. The replacement has a faulty USB port (so only one actually works) and this machine also needs to be replaced. Toshiba was helpful in diagnosing both problems and concluding both machines needed to be replaced. However, while they accepted that both machines were faulty I have now spent 10 hours setting up two new computers (transferring software, folders etc..) and I cannot afford the possibility that the third machine will also be faulty. The opportunity cost of trying to find an R830-132 that actually works as advertised has become too high. I will replace the second malfunctioning machine with an HP laptop.

Review 2 : Lightweight, powerful, excellent value for money!
I felt bad that this laptop only has a 3 star rating on Amazon, so I'm here to give my view on this fantastic little machine!
When I was looking for a new laptop, it had to meet 2 key requirements for me. The first was that it needed to be lightweight. I travel a lot for research, often to fairly remote areas that require a lot of lugging bags around, so this was an absolute must. However, I didn't want a netbook because they are just too small for me - I need to do a lot of data processing, and it's annoying when you can only see about 3 columns of numbers on the screen! I decided that the best size to go for would be a 13.3in, and the Toshiba Satellite is by far one of the lightest machines in that category, lighter even than the MacBook Pro. It's no heavier than my boyfriend's little 8in netbook, absolutely perfect! So it ticked that box.
