Product Description

Excellent all-rounder
This machine seems to have got quite a few bad reviews, commenting on customer support and so forth. I've had nothing but good experiences with it so far:

Pro's:
1. Battery life is astounding. By turning off some W7 functions and lowering the screen contrast, I've managed to squeeze nearly 10 hours out of this machine using Firefox 4.0Beta and MS Word 10 constantly. Obviously if I were playing music or games the battery life would drop, but it's good to see a manufacturer telling the truth about battery life for once.
2. RAM is upgradeable to 8GB quite cheaply from crucialmemory, but the 3GB performs very well for the functions I use it for
3. Dual-core processor in a notebook at this price is quite remarkable, as most would have plumped for the inferior AMD Athlon or an ULV model.
4. It come's with a DL Lightscribe DVD drive. How they managed to squeeze it in is anyone's guess, and it's still quite rare for notebooks of this size to have one.

Review 1 : nice feel, terrible picture
Bought this via John Lewis after sending back a Toshiba Satellite C650-154 which felt cheap and nasty. I have no need for Acer support (see the other reviews): if there's a problem I'll send it back to J. Lewis
Pros:
Nice feel, slim, metallic, solid.
The keyboard is flat, the cursor keys well placed and overall good to type on. (incidentally there is no numeric pad, contrary to the main picture shown on Amazon)
runs very quietly
does not get hot
Battery life is very good, around 4-5 hours, though never the 8 hours Acer claims
Not laden with software junk

Cons:
poor picture if not viewed from straight in front, so it's difficult for more than one person to view videos and photos at a time. This could be due to the settings but Windows 7 doesnt seem to let you adjust anything - maybe it's just me?
The touch pad is a disappointment too - it frequently does not respond to my touches / strokes regardless of how I set it
