Definitely the right choice for performance
I bought this after replacing a faulty HP DV6. Needed something for video editing/rendering and a fast PC for days to day stuff.

Always liked ASUS for my desktop builds, but their laptops were never fast enough... well this one is a piece of magic... fast graphics, rendering is similar to my desktop i7-950/AMD 6850 speed for GPU rendering, but seems slicker.... Was concerned about keyboard, at first looks, it seemed plasticky and thrown together, but typing on it is absolutely fine... keys on side, thought they would distract but they never get in the way and have not had to concentrate on hitting the right key. And the piano style lid, is wonderful, not the fingerprint magnet I thought, actually a bit of matt black finish and looks very classy...

Sound is fabulous, once you get the setting right. very loud and clear, lots of useful bass even with external sub-woofer.... screen is perfect, bright and all the detail I need (couldn't aford the FULL HD model -1124V,...

Best Bang for Buck Laptop
I have been searching for a replacement laptop for some time, I use mine for Photoshop and some gaming. I had an older ASUS laptop so I knew the brand and had an idea of what to expect.
This laptop however is much much better than my previous one, although it's not the main reason the value for money is very good, believe me I've spent ages comparing laptops!

PROS
Great i7 processor
Big Clear screen
Really quiet (even when put under load)
Lots of useful ports (HDMI, USB 3.0)

CONS
I think it wont be long till I upgrade to 8 Meg of RAM
You need 5 DVD's for the Restore backup (Takes a while as do the other updates, but worth it!)

Finally the review that made me pause for a short while, the one about the keyboard! Is completely WRONG.

I've been through a few laptops in the 15' range recently, and found them all lacking in one area or other.

This Asus has really won me over. So far it has been one of those pieces of technology that inspires feelings of respect and affection through it's sheer reliability and consistent performance. It just hasn't let me down, and every time I open it up it is a pleasure to work with something so fit for purpose.

The build is fantastic. It is a little larger than some 15's, and it is plastic all around, but the plastics are good quality and the ergonomics are just fantastic. I've had aluminum laptops with sharp, sleek lines that have destroyed my wrists, this on the other hand stays comfortable for hours of typing.
The speakers are a standout victory, easily the best laptop speakers I have ever heard. The included subwoofer makes all the difference.

Review 1 : great machine
So far it has been a very smooth experience. It is a great machine because it has lots of power, good audio, great visual, more than enough memory for my purposes, a nice chicklet keyboard, and it is cheap compared to other computers with the same specs. Overall I am very happy with it.
Review 2 : No Illuminated Keyboard!
I had seen reviews of other Asus laptops on Amazon saying that there had been problems with Amazon advertising some Asus laptops as having illuminated keyboards that did not. I saw this model advertised as having an illuminated keyboard and then specifically e-mailed Amazon customer services to confirm that it was correct. They said it definitely did have an illuminated keyboard. My laptop has just arrived today and, surprise surprise, no illuminated keyboard. It's being sent straight back.
