Review 1 : Beware Windows 8!!
The machine itself is up to Toshiba's usual high standard, but why oh why is it only available with Windows 8? This geeky smartphone type platform is simply impossible for someone brought up on previous Windows platforms. I bought it just to use damned thing - not having to spend days re-learning the whole sorry process. I simply have neither the time nor the inclination.
Also, Win 8 will not accept POP3 email and transferring OE files without going through MS's "cloud" is very difficult.
Google "Windows 8 problems" to get an idea of how wide-spread the revulsion to this is...
So my local PC shop - a registered MS agent by the way, & one who shares my opinion of Win 8 - is killing off this abomination & installing Windows 7!
Review 2 : Hamstrung by Win 8 and meagre 4gb Ram
4 Ram is woefully inadequate, 30% of mem is used up just ticking over with a media player running. Try running a couple of PROPER programs like Photoshop or CAD concurrent, and the mouse/ trackpad freezes while the poor machine has a good think. OK, upgrading to 8 (or better 16GB RAM) is easy & cheap; so why do they sell a laptop that's like a dribbling idiot?
Why do Toshiba put the USB ports in the RH side of the laptop, exactly where a right-hander uses an external mouse?
Why are the Function keys now secondary functions... so you cant single press 'F4' 'F8' anymore - this makes the laptop useless for power programs, CAD, games etc.
Why is it shipped with Win8 ?? its not a touchscreen laptop so there is no benefit over Win 7 - do you really want to waste time learning a new OS? however it has a downgrade to a win7 emulator which is in itself an admission.
What is this 'Toshiba has an important message' pop-up that keeps bouncing in? sodding inbuilt virus...
