Having been using computers now for the best part of thirty years and probably every conceivable operating system there is, I have to say this is by far and away, the best machine and operating system I have ever used. I have been using Linux for home use for the best part of six to seven years, Linux Mint in particular, as M$ Windows in any disguise just does not cut it in terms of performance or reliability, which is why I switched. I didn't think anything would tempt me away from Linux but when Gnome released their new version it seemed quite buggy and not quite as user friendly and the Mint Team appeared to be having a problem making it work within their system so APPLE seemed like the only option open.

Waste of time (Read on!!!)
This laptop is wasting my time. No, not because it is slow or anything, it is just so beautiful that I can't go for more than five minuets without looking at the extremely beautiful and well made unibody enclosure. Iv'e had it for about a week and I haven't had a SINGLE problem or error (well apart from the time Team fortress 2 and portal crashed, but that was an issue with the applications). The sound on this laptop is the best I have ever heard on any laptop, and the superdrive is great for playing CD's and movies. I have managed so far to get about 3 hours of full brightness, 10 hours in the dark, and about an hour of solid gaming or other intensive use. It is very light and only 0.98 inches or about 2 cm thick. Now, when I was thinking about buying this item, I wondered wether it could run games, and the simple answer is yes, but let's get in to more detail. So far, I have tested 3 games, Portal, Team Fortress 2 and Minecraft. Let's start with Portal. It is a very fun puzzle game...

Well what can i say...
Firstly i'd like to say what a beautifully crafted and well engineered machine this is.

I've been using macs personally since 2003 and they just let you get on with your work (and play) without the babysitting of windows annoyances.

My primary use is for art within games development.
It works well with Maya, Adobe creative suite CS and many other industry standard software applications.
I would recommend this 17" macbook pro for creatives.

The only con is the hard drive. Although a roomy 750gb it's only 5400rpm and a little slow.
I highly recommend you upgrading to an SSD which is very easy to install.
(I installed a crucial M4 256gb and it has made the machine a speed monster).

This computer is amazing,
i have had it for 2 years now and still running without a problem (ONLY MINOR THINGS) but i love this computer dearly.
with it having a great processor and a 'alright graphics card' this is the best for home use small gaming and the best for business design. Even when i get my new computer i will still keep this for a good memory of my second computer.

We bought the HP Pavilion in late April 2012. We use computers but aren't really technical but once unpacked we switched on and found the battery was 88% charged and simply followed the on screen instructions/options and linked to our VirginMedia WiFi in no time and was surfing the net within 30 minutes. The start up time is good, sub 1 minute and log off is a matter of seconds. A huge improvement over our last laptop. One month of usage and it flies. We're very happy with the purchase. The only task we've got to do is move the 4,000 or so tracks we have on iTunes from the old laptop to the HP, anyone got any tips?

Worst lap top I have ever owned
I bought a hp on recommendation as I was fed up with other brand reliability . First of all this laptop weighs a ton and actually gives you wrist ache just picking it up. It's heavy on your lap and not nice to use. The sides are uncomfortably sharp when using the trackpad or side keys.the left click button it amazingly noisy to use unless you hit the exact middle of the button. The power cord comes straight out instead of at a 90 degree angle so it sticks out and gets in the way and makes it awkward to store when plugged in

Main issues I had with this laptop was the speed it did everything. It would take up to 40 seconds to load a web page! My galaxy note phone was being used more often than this as it was much quicker. It was behaving like a 2 year old laptop right out of the box.

After much frustration I just sent it back and received a full refund(the only reason I gave it 1 star ,but that's down to amazon being good like that with problems and refunding...

Bought Pavillion DV7 and Iam over the moon with it. It looks very stylish, the keys are great, no issue with mousepad at all. Its fast with an excellent memory. Best laptop I have ever had, heads above Samsung, Dell and Toshiba.
