I spent almost a month extensively researching laptops before deciding to buy the UX32A. There are many superficial reviews out there (techradar, expertreviews and whatnot). Then there are a couple of superb, detailed review sites from which you will really learn what makes a good laptop: notebookcheck and anandtech. I would suggest to anyone looking at buying this (or any) laptop to read the reviews on these two sites.

Now to my own experience from having bought this machine 3 weeks ago:

It is light, fast, has a lovely backlit keyboard, a very robust sleep/hibernate function and power options that ensure battery is well conserved. The best part (and unlike the macbook air and many many other ultrabooks out there) the RAM can be upgraded (from the current 4GB upto a maximum of 10GB) and the hard disk can be upgraded (from the 500GB 'traditional' hard disk to a fast SSD of upto 500GB and probably 1TB in the future). I bought this laptop to take away travelling for 3 months, as I own a company, and need to be able to be online and potentially resolve any problems for clients.

It's lightweight, but feels absolutely solid, and the included case is actually quite good (although I'm probably going to get something a little more substantial).

I removed Windows and put Linux on (Ubuntu precise) and this was very painless indeed, with the only notable issue being the function keys for screen brightness. After having many issue in the past with various drivers (esp. wifi) it was very refreshing to have something work out of the box!

Screen quality is perfect, I've not had any light leakage as some have described.

Runs really smoothly, even when running virtual machines and other tasks which are resource heavy.

I've had my MBP Retina (with 16GB of RAM mind you) for ~six months now. Prior to this I was a windows only guy but I needed to start porting a product I make over to the mac and linux. super cool upgrade to my old black macbook. migration assistant made loading software easy.

initially wanted a 27inch imac, but realised couldnt live without portability. so got macbook pro and dell screen. best of both worlds.

battery life is not quite up to advertised 7hrs, found a few posts on updating PRAM settings which ill try.

flash storage is WAY quicker than harddisk,

definitely happy to have bought MBP retina and a cheap amazon dvd drive than the macbook pro with dvd... its a big weight saving for a laptop.

I bought one of these a few months ago, after sadly selling my beloved 11" MacBook Air (see first link in the comment below) when I had to give up my 24" Monitor.
(so I needed the new Pro for its bigger display....no other reason).

I chose this one over a conventional Pro because it is thinner and lighter. I've owned three Pros in recent years, and they were too heavy to carry around frequently.

So my thoughts about the new Pro:
In terms of processing grunt, it is comparable to my previous quad-core MacBook Pro (see second link in the comment below). Fine.
In day-to-day terms it is as fast as, but not noticeably faster than, my MacBook Air was.

The big display is crisp and good enough to negate a large monitor. Does the 'Retina Display' quality of it make things any better? No. For sure, the higher resolution of the display makes management of the screen area easier when editing videos and photos, but the higher pixels-per-inch makes no...

Review 1 : Not as Described. Not UK model
I ordered this Macbook and received the item the very next day which was fulfilled by Amazon which was great.
When arrived and opened the box, the keyboard was different, not greatly different but it was not a UK model. It does not state anywhere that it is a international or us keyboard. Secondly, this computer is not even american after checking the serial number which is MC975ZP/A. It is a Con to let these companies trade on the UK Amazon site and trick customers into thinking it is a UK model by not stating clearly that it is a international model.

I have used it now and it is not hard to adjust as i have used Arabic and US keyboards in the past but for anybody not used to the change it would be an issue. Causes a little confusion when i switch from iMAC UK model to this now.

Just a note to everyone that take it into account before purchasing.
Review 2 : Pretty good
Nice display, good build quality as usual (I still have a 5 year old MacBook that I use, but since I spend most of my time on the road its nice to have something with a bit more processing power). Retina screen looks great, at full res can be a little hard on the eyes as the text can get pretty small. Had no real problems after a month of use.

My only gripe is the lack of external connections. Two USBs is pretty limited, particularly because it has no built in DVD and it is likely if you use any kind of CD or DVD you'll end up with one of these, and with the limited internal memory you're going to use an external drive. I also have a USB external wireless broadband dongle so already I'm having to pack a USB hub! Review 1 : This laptop is Good but not great
I got this laptop from a seller on eBay back in July, the seller originally said it was in working condition but in fact it was not. This laptop was in such a state that I couldn't boot it up without burning my lap.

Since then it has been to a repair shop twice, and now is my most favourite Computer ever. It's super quiet and well it has a 2.4Ghz processor, that's enough to play some of the better games out there. Let's just say that the game known as Minecraft, works surprisingly well on this laptop.

I've upgraded the RAM to 8GB, this has improved quite a lot of the problems I had back when I got it. (you see the seller said it had 4GB when in fact when I got it, it only had 1GB, and no I couldn't send it back to get my money back, from the lying *insert bad word here*).

If you're willing to put the work into it, and when you buy the laptop don't forget to get an extended warranty, just in case. This laptop can actually be pretty amazing...
Review 2 : Flimsy laptop
I've had this laptop less than five months and a couple of weeks ago I found that the LCD screen became unclear and green lines gradually took up half the screen. Over a couple of days three cracks on the screen grew more and more visible.

Now this purchase was not cheap and as so I took great care in handling it. My previous laptop lasted me about 8 years so believe me when I tell you: I did not drop the laptop, I did not kick it and since I live alone, nobody else did either.

I have heard from others that the damage may have occurred from simply closing the it, a design flaw in many modern laptops that try to make their product as light as possible. A good tip when browsing for a new laptop is to put pressure on the back of the screen panel and see if it affects the visuals on screen.

Anyhow, I have tried to get through to Sony but it was a waste of time trying to get hold of them and they will only charge you an extortionate price in replacing or...
