The good is the battery life: stunning. The keyboard: excellent. The size and design: very slim and elegant.
The bad is the screen: although sharp, it is overly reflective and has a very poor angle of view with the colour and contrast changing hugely with a slight change of position. The OS: it comes with Vista and a free upgrade to Windows 7. The former is a joke and the latter is truly ridiculous in terms of getting a working installation. Last but not least, the support from Acer: very possibly the worst company on the planet.
Unfortunately, trying to get either OS to work properly on any level takes forever and without the slightest help from Acer (whose staff barely understand English either written or spoken) you are likely to be left with a very expensive tray, rather than a usable laptop.
My advice is to rope in some help of a computer literate friend, buy a copy of XP at the same time and then do a...

Best 'netbook' I could find for the money!
Searching for a netbook is like picking the perfect sheep. They all have the same specs, a similar look and make the same noise. Baahhhaahhhaaa.....

After many a day searching and indeed some late nights searching (for netbooks, honest!), I finally found what I was looking for. I nearly bought the HP mini at just over 200 notes, but I wanted more power, Captain.

For me, this is an ideal machine, not too small that you'll lose it down the back of the sofa, not too big so it crushes your lap or the coffee table (I only drink tea, why do I have a coffee table!), but just right, so you can browse the web and watch online movies / tv all you want.

The size also means I can carry it around with ease, in a carry case of course, wouldn't want the little beauty getting scratched now!

Great buy
Excellent laptop for the price, and no problems whatsoever. I was a bit wary about buying it as I'd read reviews which said it kept freezing (I think due to a combination of power settings and Vista), but no problems with Windows 7.

Runs quickly, and is lightweight yet has a disc drive, so I'm happy. Have to say though I did buy it thinking it was black, but it's actually got a darksih grey matte lid. Very stylish though, and multi-gesture touchpad is great and easy to use. No Bluetooth, but dongles are cheap.

Keyboard feels slightly cheap but that might just be the finish, and it looks good. HD graphics make films look great despite the lack of Blu-Ray player. This is the best laptop for the money of its size and power. The processor speed could be better, but then you do get a decent battery life on it and a good graphics card.

I finally had had enough of my old slow desktop and after reading all the reviews available etc. etc. I settled for this laptop and could not be happier. It is fast and easy to use. It is slimmer than the average laptop and looks very good. The 8 hour battery does not really matter for my use, but could be very handy when travelling on longhaul flights. I am just your average user, but would not hesitate to recommend it to any one looking for an upgrade!

I bought this laptop to replace my ageing Toshiba Satellite Pro - and I couldn't be happier.

The product was easy to set up in terms of getting going and connecting to the wireless and home workgroup, and is wonderfully sleek and lightweight - which is perfect as I tend to take mine when I move between rooms. I also cannot fault the inclusion of the number keypad (very handy when using the calculator), and I am very impressed at the battery life thus far.

Battery life to date seems very good - I used 20% in 2 hours of heavy usage ( installing programes, using the internet, big downloads from a USB drive -all concurrently). Sound quality from the speakers is very good for their size and the webcam gives a clear picture. It looks good, feels good and solid and I have to say I would struggle to justify spending nearly twice as much for a similar spec macbook air

I had a sony vaio 15 inch laptop for home use, and an asus eee pc 1201 net book for travel. so i decided instead of having 2 laptops, to have just one that is light enough for travel, but with a screen wide enough to work comfortably with long word files. ACER s3 was the choice.

have had it for 1 month. screen is good. light and easy to use. I am quite pleased. BUT - the battery is nowhere near 6 hours. for normal use - internet browsing and word - it is more like 4 hours. also the keyboard is a bit uncomfortable - I make a lots of typos. either still have to get used more or it is not fully comfortable...

another minus is the fact that USB plugs are in the back of the laptop. whenever you need anything you need to close the screen and then turn the laptop to plug a usb key or anything you need. quite uncomfortable.

this being said - i would still buy S3 for these money. but hope future version would have USB elsewhere, better battery and better...
