I've had a Macbook Pro 15inch (Late 2008) for 14 months and it stills works superbly! Beautiful design, great OS you really cough up serious money for serious computing experience. Some people may moan that for that price you could get 3 laptops from the likes of Acer, HP and all the rest. Sure, you could but you'd be missing out on nice extras. Even after 14 months I still get 4-5 hours (only internet browing/documents/etc) from the battery while all my friends get 1.5 hours from their 6 month old laptops (supposedly 4 hour battery). It's pretty, light, balanced, thin and doesn't overheat - You won't need a "cool mat" for this laptop. One of the main arguments against the Snow/Leopard OS is that you can't run programs that are on XP/Vista/7 machines but I don't see that as a big thing. Every application I need is available for the Mac and I don't have to worry about pesky applications that take up resources while doing nothing (iTunes doesn't count :D) Also, with iLife you get great...

The new MacBook Pro laptop from Apple delivers as expected. Definitely not disappointed with this purchase. (Although I upgraded the screen spec to anti-glare for use outside in the summer sun on the patio, at the Apple store).

Wow - first mac, and I just can't get over how great this is. Screen fantastic, Mac OS X incredible, I love the software that comes with it (Garage band in particular - free lessons to learn the guitar and piano). Touchpad gestures are great. Above all, the battery life is superb - easily getting five hours in reasonably low use. Yes, the price is much higher than many Windows notebooks, but you get all the above with this.

If you do want to run Windows - you can via Bootcamp. Can't see this happening though!!

The only slight niggle is the lack of Blueray.

As a long time PC user, I was persuaded to think Mac by people I work with who claimed that despite the price, I wouldn't be disappointed, and switching would be easier than is touted (especially by Microsoft).

I'm pleased to say that I am more than happy. The hardware is fantastic, the battery life is superb (although the 'up to 9 hours' claim is a bit wide of the mark - I get 6 max) and having worked with Linux, I got around the Mac way of doing things pretty quickly. The bundled Mac software is great, and anyone who has scratched their heads getting rules in Outlook on Windows to behave will be amazed how straight forward it is in Mail. Time Machine creates incremental backups to my Western Digital My World NAS box, and I have pretty much found Mac equivalent to all the PC software I used to run.

Amazing Mac and why you shouldn't buy the 500Gb version
Firstly this is a great machine, but it's pointless buying the 500gb version, and I'll tell you why. Also I have a cautionary tale.

Why Buy The 500Gb Version?
This is simple. The specs are identical for 320gb vs 500gb machines except for the hard drive and processor. The speed differences between them are so small in my mind the additional money is not worth it, but the bigger hard drive is. It is so easy to install hard drives in these unibody macs that you are much better off buying an internal 2.5" 500Gb drive from Amazon Toshiba MK5055GSX 500GB 2.5-Inch Internal SATA HDD - I suggest this simply because I know it works. If you are worried about if you have the skills to do this read on - it's easy! (see vs non uni-body pros section)

The performance on this one is a bit faster for some programs and considerably faster for others. The construction however is MUCH better than the one on the previous. This is basically the sturdiest laptop that you can find and this does include the old Thinkpads that used to be indestructible. The computer seems a lot thinner than it actually is and there are quite a few little improvements that put a smile on my face. For one the ambient light sensor has been moved to the top of the screen which basically means that now it actually works a lot better and certain lighting conditions do not make my screen flicker. The Apple logo on the back now has been covered so that when you have bright sunlight at the back of the screen it does now show on the front of your screen as well. The audio port no longer has a slight hiss to it and the list goes on...
