I therefore wanted a good quality laptop that was robust, powerful, had excellent battery life and had a good enough screen to be useful for desktop work as well. I've had a Macbook Pro 15inch (Late 2008) for 14 months and it stills works superbly! Beautiful design, great OS you really cough up serious money for serious computing experience. Some people may moan that for that price you could get 3 laptops from the likes of Acer, HP and all the rest. Sure, you could but you'd be missing out on nice extras. Even after 14 months I still get 4-5 hours (only internet browing/documents/etc) from the battery while all my friends get 1.5 hours from their 6 month old laptops (supposedly 4 hour battery). It's pretty, light, balanced, thin and doesn't overheat - You won't need a "cool mat" for this laptop. One of the main arguments against the Snow/Leopard OS is that you can't run programs that are on XP/Vista/7 machines but I don't see that as a big thing. Every application I need is available for the Mac and I don't have to worry about pesky applications that take up resources while doing nothing (iTunes doesn't count :D) Also, with iLife you get great...

Goodness in aluminium form
Like most people here, I made the big leap from PC to Mac. To everyone reading these reviews who are contemplating it...Just do it! They're actually not a lot different from a PC in most ways, just a LOT better and surprisingly easy to use.

I've been waiting for the unibody Macbook Pro line to be updated since early this year, it was worth the wait! This update really has put the 13" machine into the pro line, and even though I was worried that the lack of the dual-graphics cards you get with the higher price models might be a problem I needn't have worried. The screen is amazingly bright with very vivid colours, and it handles games at high quality settings with fps at around 20-50 depending on the game and what it's doing, usually smooth and clear.

This machine does get rather hot, as the aluminium body is used to transfer heat out of the interior, I wouldn't want to use this on my lap. And it would be nice if Apple would start putting Blu Ray in their computers.

I can live with those two problems, and for me this machine is simply fantastic!

Fantastic Mac
I converted from my Dell laptop and I agree with previous reviews the whole affair was seamless. I rarely turn the laptop off, just closing the lid is good enough. It is a fantastic piece of design and the build quality is second to none. It is true you can get a PC clone with more memory, greater chip speed and for less money, but once you have started using a mac nothing else will do.

If you have money buy one - especially the 4GB Ram 250GB HD model. For ultra portability go for the 13" model. If you do not have the money then save up and buy one.

I finally bit the bullet and went for a mac, and can truly say now that once you've had mac, you never go back! I've got a trusty old desktop which runs XP reasonably well (ok, yeah, it has had 2 disasterous lose-all crashes) and last year I bought a cheap toshiba laptop with vista - which has spent much of it's life "not responding". I'd always thought macs were a little pretentious and arty, and that people who paid that much for a computer had issues...

There were too many people telling me how good they were, and I was fed up ctrl-alt-deleting and still never getting where I wanted to be, so I went for it. Awesome. Expensive yes, but if time is money then I wish I'd done this years ago as I would have saved an inordinate amount of staring at status bars, trying to undo the upgrade or service pack that brought down your system, waiting for task manager to cough and sputter it's way into life because you dared open...
