OK for home surfing - poor as a serious work machine
Bought one of these as a home laptop, so that I could work away from my desk - I'd love to like it but I find it unusable for doing any serious work because of non-standard behaviours which lower productivity so I feel I wasted my money.
The first thing you notice is that there is no "Home" key or "End" key which makes doing any work (document editing, programming, etc) awkward if you're used to doing editing quickly and efficiently - you *can* press the "Fn" meta-key then an arrow, but that makes short-cuts like Ctrl-Shift-End in MS-Word become Ctrl-Shift-Fn-LeftArrow which is getting silly. The second thing you notice is that the function keys have been usurped to perform alternative functions (brighten display, quieten audio, disable WiFi, etc) and to actually get their normal function (like F1 for "Help" in most applications, and F4, F9, F10, F11 and F12 in my normal programming environment) you have to press the "Fn" meta-key ... so if you want to close an application...

Review 1 : A great little laptop
I can't really speak too highly of my Envy 13. I've had it for a couple of months now and I can safely say this is the best laptop/notebook/netbook I've ever owned or used (and yes, that does include a macbook pro). Windows 7 64 bit is a fine operating system (far superior to vista and xp, and much better than os x). The notebook itself oozes build quality. It isnt a gaming machine but the graphics are decent. The switching gpu function is great and the battery life is astounding. With the slice it lasts up to 12 hours in use.
