Review 1 : Excellent Notebook!
This was purchased after a lot of research and customer reviews on performance, finally came to this decision.

It lives up to it's promise with a fast boot and excellent mouse/touch-pad speeds, I will not be using all the additional software that is inevitably bundled with named brand products.

This may be useful to others (Less "techy" folk) but I much prefer to install my own applications and I have to say, I really don't like other stuff/trial software, etc., being foisted on me.

It's totally unnecessary, and the Brands concerned obviously get kick-backs from the sponsored software, but I don't have to like it.. so it was all quickly uninstalled!

Rant over, but apart from that, the Notebook really is excellent and well recommended, being robust and well made.. with a good Intel CPU and ample HDD space.. Windows 7 is the business too!

My HP Pavilion 6000 had finally died and I could not resurrect it.
After much head scratching and reading of numerous reviews I finally settled on this computer.
Ordered from Amazon on Thursday 30 August and received it the following Wednesday, in Spain! Hows that for service.
The overall quality is good, the case feels rigid and the keyboard is excellent with a good touch feel. One thing that I don't particularly like is the position of the touch pad as it is central to the main keyboard but offset left to the unit centre. However, you do get used to it. The touch pad itself is a bit quirky, having to use two fingers to emulate the usual scroll function. One useful function is the ability to zoom in/out, a bit like the phone and tablets. A separate mouse may be useful. I like the numbers keys to the right hand side because I am used to having it on my desktop machine.

I've had this model for three years now, and it's very impressive piece of kit IMO. Replace Vista with Linux or Win XP or something and you've got a powerful-enough, quiet, low power-using, nice screen'd, hard-wearing little machine. Mine is in it's second career now, running VMware server for my home network. Best laptop I've ever owned (for the money).

Review 1 : Top Dealer good value product
I already had one of these, so I knew what I was looking for I needed one for my wife at the right price, it is a basic budget computer that will do most general tasks, browsing and home office needs,I ordered it a couple of days b4 Christmas and the page warned that delivery was unlikely to be until after the holidays, what a surprise less than 24 hours later a UPS driver had waded 100yds from the main road in knee deep snow to my house.

Although this comes with windows vista home I do not use this system much, I run Linux Mint and toy with other systems all from USB drives, this machine works well with a lot of these

I did have one question for the dealer who responded quickly

I got to a stage where I needed to do some stuff in windows, It came with vista home basic which I found sluggish in fact so slow it gave the impression the computer was faulty, I changed this for XP and the machine really benefited,
A year down the line it now is running...
Review 2 : Good computer, shame about Windows
The is the best quality of 3 laptops i've owned (...Toshiba and Sony). The ASUS is much more solid, much better made and doesn't feel like it's going to snap when I pick it up.

The downside is that the celeron processor isn't really powerful enough for the truly awful Windows Vista. I upgraded mine to Windows 7 without trouble and it's a bit better but really all computers now need a dual-core processor. Wish I knew that before I bought it. It's not a problem with the computer as such, any celeron laptop will be the same.

Still, It works fine with W7 and Office and cost me 270 quid! Beat that!
