Product Description
Acer Aspire 5742
My old laptop was 7 years old. Not being an expert when I decided to change I looked around for a while and ended up selecting from a long list. The Acer Aspire is a powerful laptop with fast response and lots of memory (even after loading lots of software) and the graphics are excellent. Regarding value when comparing this with others I reckon it was at least some 25% lower in cost than its competitors. I know there is a long way to go to compete with my old 7 year old laptop but my initial impression is good value at a competitive price.

Review 2 : Superb value for money
I spent quite a while shopping around and to-ing and fro-ing over how much to spend, did I really need that big a hard drive, etc, etc. I eventually took the plunge on this Acer which ticked all the boxes on paper and I'm *really* pleased that I did. My other half really wanted a Vaio/Macbook but I persuaded him that it was the spec that was important and not the brand and I think even he'd admit that I was right! Speed is excellent and as our music and photos were the most important thing to us, the memory size is great. The off centre keyboard takes a bit of getting used to but, personally I'm glad that they've included the "calculator" pad to the right hand side as I rely heavily on that for accounts, etc - a reasonable trade off in my book! Overall, I would definitely recommend this. In fact, I had...
