TBH I don't know why you didn't just call the helpline Steven. If you do & they diagnose a fault then Amazon never quibble about replacing items which they have sold. Don't give up, it's a lovely easy & lightweight machine to use:) I noticed you are one of these 'Amazon Vine' chaps where IIRC they give you the stuff free in return for reviews! Did this happen with the item here? If so I really think that you owe it to them to follow the faults procedure and comment fairly on your experience thereof.

That said, I have had my Emachines 430 for about a fortnight & it has surpassed my expectations. Win7 Premium loads within 60 seconds from pressing the power button and the processor has been on-top of all tasks that I have thrown it's way. Playing a DVD in full-screen takes around 35% of the processor power and I have also watched streaming video with no problem whatever. Great laptop for the price!
I purchased this laptop before I went off to university in 2008, and I still have it to this day, infact, I am using it to write this review. When it arrived it was as stylish as it looks in the pictures and was really easy to set-up. I am not an expert in laptops or PC's but the descriptions and specifications were easy to understand and not too technical. I researched laptops in my price range and found that this laptop was all I would ever need, hence why I stil have it now. It easily matched, and sometimes beat, the specifications of laptops with a similar price. I looked at Sony Vaio, Asus, Toshiba and Dell and all were either more expensive for lower specifications or just generally got bad reviews across the board.

I purchased this laptop in April and still have it today. I purchased it originally for Uni as it had all the relevant specs needed for what i would be using it for. To start with, the build is fantastic, the media control center on the side is also very nice and even has a HOLD feature which allows you to turn it off (this is very useful when you first get this laptop as i found i kept accidently touching parts of the control centre as i got used to the keyboard).
After a week of having the laptop i was once again able to touch type and am now very used to the laptop. The fingerprint scanner also adds to the laptop in its security as well as a gadget to add. The addition of a Blu-Ray player also made me want to buy this laptop and the great thing about it is that it also upscales normal DVDs, meaning any DVDs which you watch will automatically look better.
For the sound, it is brilliant, it comes with a Dolby Home Theater system built into the laptop and I feel the sound...

A warning to anyone still thinking of buying this laptop
I don't know whether my laptop is simply extremely faulty, or if it's a problem with this make/batch. But I was given this laptop quite some-time ago as a birthday present it was bought from Tescos. So it had a one year guarantee on it, in that year it had to go back several times because of issue after issue after issue.

Pros -
+ The laptop has decent specifications for average use
+ The wide-screen is brilliant for movies
+ Speakers are well-placed so they won't interfere with typing
+ Because it's issued with Windows 7 it's easy to navigate

Cons -
- It's very heavy, I have a newer laptop (gaming one) that has a massive battery and is a-lot larger in size but it weighs the same
- The battery doesn't hold charge for anywhere near what's advertised
- The charger it came with melted, (a friend of mine who had this laptop too, their charger caught fire)
- It gets incredibly hot (now I'm no idiot, I use my laptop on hard clean...

Review 2 : Right second time
I spent a great deal checking all the options before settling on this ACER laptop. It is or my 9 year old son, so I was looking for something that gave reasonable perforamnce in basic functions such as web surfing and writing documents at a reasoanble price and this certainly fitted the bill.

It was very easy to setup and was up and running in no time at all. That's when I hit the snag - as soon as I moved the laptop more than a metre from my wireless router it lost connection. After several reboots and reloading drivers it was still no better. I knew it was the kaptop having an issue with range as I had five other laptops connecting at the other end of the house with no problem. However, I can have nothing but praise for Amazon's customer service. No quibbles, no declarations that it must be my fault. The faulty laptop was collected the next day and the replacment arrived the day after. This one worked perfectly.

I spent a couple of weeks periodically investigating laptop models from various manufacturers and sources, and this one maintained it's place on my wishlist along with one of it's Lenovo equivalents.

I saw some question-mark comments about whether Amazon was selling the 5750g, as spec'ed on this page, or if it was, in fact, the 5750 without the NVidia graphics processor. In the end I decided to order it and consider it a bonus if it was the NVidia chip installed, and so I was really pleased when it arrived, and I found that it is, indeed, the 5750g as detailed.

My first concern on removing the laptop from it's sturdy packaging was that I could hear something small rattling around inside. Having had plenty of prior experience of disassembling and assembling PC's, I removed the screws holding the back cover on the chassis. Trapped within the murky depths was a loose motherboard screw, which plopped out onto the carpet! A little disappointing, but ultimately not a...

Bought 2 of these as christmas gifts and like the previous review says, the graphics card isn't as advertised.
Apart from that, it's a great piece of kit.
My son plays online and to test it out i loaded World of Warcraft on it and had no problems at all, in fact it seems to look a bit better on a PC than it does on my Apple Mac.
This is a great buy for anyone with a "lowish" budget.
Everything else is as advertised, 4GB Ram, 250GB HDD, Blue-ray player and even a webcam. You won't find a better spec at this price.

This is a very good value laptop for the money with great spec for the price, however it has been listed here as having a ATI mobility HD 3650-512mb graphic card, which is a mid range card well capable of gaming but does in fact have a ATI mobility HD 3470-256mb, which is a lower class card & isn't really capable for gaming at descent frame rates.So if gaming is not your thing this is a very good spec laptop but if you were purchasing this for gaming with the illusion that it has the HD 3650, like I did & had to return for a refund, look elsewhere at something like the Acer Aspire 6920G which does have the HD 3650 installed.

I regret from my first review that i wrote it just a couple of days after i bought it. Well, 4 month past and already had to send it to repaired as DVD/CD player didn't work...Annoying computer and annoying windows 7, just for to give an example, every 5 min a small windows open to tell u something and i been f..looking around changing all the settings and still happen, also shut down by itself when he wants, etc etc...one good thing is that this computer is for my husband and not me, I've got my Apple laptop for 7 years now, is the most basic one but has "never never never" break down, not even a programme, yes, is true that u pay more money but u know what...is worse it!!!
So to this ACER laptop that already broke down in just 4 month, i don't really think it will last a year and a half...ACER still rubbish!!!
