Great buy
Excellent laptop for the price, and no problems whatsoever. I was a bit wary about buying it as I'd read reviews which said it kept freezing (I think due to a combination of power settings and Vista), but no problems with Windows 7.

Runs quickly, and is lightweight yet has a disc drive, so I'm happy. Have to say though I did buy it thinking it was black, but it's actually got a darksih grey matte lid. Very stylish though, and multi-gesture touchpad is great and easy to use. No Bluetooth, but dongles are cheap.

Keyboard feels slightly cheap but that might just be the finish, and it looks good. HD graphics make films look great despite the lack of Blu-Ray player. This is the best laptop for the money of its size and power. The processor speed could be better, but then you do get a decent battery life on it and a good graphics card.

I've had this laptop for just under a year and to date I am very pleased with it. The laptop is very thin and light and therefore extremely easy to carry around. The battery life is fantastic. It easily lasts 5 or 6 hours and can go up to around 8, depending on what you're doing on it. Another bonus is that it never gets hot. You can sit with this laptop on your lap for hours at a time without having to worry about it over-heating - it keeps itself cool which is brilliant.
I have had a few problems with this laptop though. It tends to freeze sporadically. I'll be in the middle of something and it will just freeze for no reason. This happens a maximum of maybe a couple of times a week. It's not a massive problem but it can get a bit annoying, especially when word documents are open. However, there is an autosave feature with microsoft so I've never lost anything. Also, the laptop doesn't open very far - only to about a 95 degree angle. Review 1 : Just one or two reservations........
I've had this just over a week and may write again after a longer period.

I'm very pleased overall. I like the colour and the design. The keyboard is easy to use but, having been a lifelong mouse user, I'm finding the touch-pad a little odd. I'm getting used to Windows 8 but use the desktop rather than the app screen. I find the charm bar a pain.

There is a card reader on the left at the front of the base but it's hidden behind a removable piece of plastic and easy to miss. There are also three USBs and an HDMI slot.

Next to the HDMI is a weird slot into which you can plug a supplied adapter which includes a LAN and VGA. This works fine for the LAN and is useful if you want to download a large file. But without it you're entirely dependent on wi-fi so don't lose it because it might not be easy to replace.

The DVD works fine but the tray is pretty flimsy.

I did think about the version with the I3 processor but read somewhere that...

This little beast is absolutely amazing!
I bought was looking for a laptop/net-book for syncing my ipod to itunes playing minecraft and a little bit of college work, apart from that i wasn't really expecting that much much more out of it, but i've managed to get a few more games running on mine like team fortress 2, counter strike and garry's mod, they may not be the most demanding of games but you'll have difficulty finding another machine that falls into the netbook category that is capable of playing them.
obviously this means the the asus x401a-wx074v is good at multitasking and running some of the harder to run programs that would kill a normal netbook that you would prbabably pay about the same for.
I've only had mine about two weeks but I havn't had any problems with it so far.

This is a great package. The touchscreen works well and I really like Windows 8. I'm using it plugged in to a separate monitor, keyboard and mouse so haven't used the keyboard etc. much. However, I would rather be able to use the keyboard on the laptop because it has a much nicer feel than my separate keyboard.

I think my only change would be to add a bit more RAM. I usually have lots of apps open and would like a bit more headroom on the memory. However, that's about my only complaint; I've had it a bit over a month now and it's going great.

Review 2 : Just what the Doctor ordered
My four year old laptop running on XP was incredibly slow and the screen had started to give up so it was time to buy a new one. I wanted a unit to consolidate all my media on. I decided to opt for Windows 8 with a touchscreen and the Asus does all this very nicely. It starts in seconds (albeit some apps take a bit longer to load). The screen is crystal clear (I have not tried it outside in the sunlight as that is not my primary use for it). The I7 processor is a dream (after being used to twiddling my thumbs waiting for Windows 7 and XP to load on my other machines).
