super cool upgrade to my old black macbook. migration assistant made loading software easy.

initially wanted a 27inch imac, but realised couldnt live without portability. so got macbook pro and dell screen. best of both worlds.

battery life is not quite up to advertised 7hrs, found a few posts on updating PRAM settings which ill try.

flash storage is WAY quicker than harddisk,

definitely happy to have bought MBP retina and a cheap amazon dvd drive than the macbook pro with dvd... its a big weight saving for a laptop.

I just bought this machine. I am simply blown away by it.

Think of it as a 13" MacBook Air with a better screen. In fact, this machine is all about the display. The retina screen is gorgeous, perfect for using MS Office, viewing movies and surfing the web, it is produces rich colours with pin sharp perfection. it takes working on a laptop computer to a completely new (and higher) level.

Some people have complained about the lack of a discrete graphics GPU. My previous 2009, 13" MacBook Pro was much inferior in terms of spec to this latest Mac model, but it still managed to play Call of Duty 4 without too much trouble. This new machine has a better graphics processing capability. So ignore the naysayers.

Overall, it weighs very little more than a MacBook Air so is equally portable. It is much easier to carry than the 15" MacBook Pro with retina display. Although this is due to its form factor as much as its weight. The footprint is identical to the 13"...

Delivery arrived before delivery date, which was good. I am very pleased with the laptop, very easy to use much prefer it to windows. The life of the battery is so much longer than on my old windows computer.

Review 1 : What a piece of kit!
The retina display is amazing, the extra cost is worth it for this alone. The computer is super fast and very intuitive to use, as with all apple products. This is a brilliant computer for professionals and students or apple addicts! If you are considering a gaming computer for your teenager though better go for a PC. All in all very very happy.

P.S. Was very surprised to find this 250 quid cheaper on Amazon (from store Top Electricals) than on the apple website. In the past it has been nigh on impossible to get apple products cheaper anywhere.

Ignoring the rather exceptional price tag and the lack of any hardware upgrade options after you've bought it, this really is an amazing piece of kit. Screen is first class, OS and software just works, sturdy construction and well thought out interface (mousepad options in particular). As long as you don't need any higher spec, this really is ideal. Highly recommended.

Excellent clear screen
Light as a feather.
OSX is a breeze to set up and use.
Everything is intuitive and where you would expect it to be.
Loads of free (fully functional) software for it like Openoffice.

Negatives
They hateful and confusing software that is ITunes. I don't like software that forces your to do things their way or not at all. First task once the machine is up, install VLC and use that as your player instead. Oh, and update from Safari browser to Firefox.

I found getting used to the trackpad a bit tricky to start with, but the handy thing is that you can set it to how you want it. Once I'd practiced a bit it worked like a dream. Slowly but surely I was getting used to how the whole thing works. The Wifi is great making surfing a breeze and DVDs play to a high resolution. Email notifications are just as smooth as the iPhone. Reached the day promised and was promptly unpacked. The packing was very good, no chances of any damage. The battery had a good amount of charge and it took a few minutes to set it up. I used to be a Sony fanatic. I knew that Sonys were superior quality if you were willing to pay the premium. I have an old Sony laptop since 2002 and it's still going. However unfortunately this situation has changed. Now the quality has dropped, Sonys break as much as anything else but you still pay the premium. That's not on. My old Vaio from 2002 had a metal casing, so to date there are very little scratches on it. On the contrary this S series is mostly made out of cheap plastic. The lid has no rigidity and as such it bends very easily under normal pressure scratching the inner part of the lcd frame on the keypoard frame. The cheap paint on the metal wrist rest comes off gradually leaving ugly marks. In addition after one year it developed a random fault. The same specs can be found on other makes with less money or same money and better quality. I bought an ACER recently with stunning quality stunning hd screen, lighter and similar specs for less. Don't be fooled by the Sony...
