If you want to save a little bit of money on your mac i'd get it trough amazon, my new mac arrived in couple of days perfectly packed and untouched. It was my first Mac and i absolutely love it recommend it to everyone that is sick of buying new computers all the time and getting problems with them, now i had my mac for 6 months and i havent had any problems at all. I'm slowly converting from pc to mac! The 17" imac is brilliant, 4gb ram as standard, and HD LED screen. Ok you'll get a PC of the same spec cheaper, but it wont look or act as well as a mac, those guys in california just know about design and usability.

Chose Amazon because it was 10% cheaper, was shipped from the same supplier as apple, result.

I'm glad I settled on this in the end
Lets get this straight from the outset, Apple equipment can be expensive (although no more than some of the Sony, HP, and Dell models out there), compared to some of the Windows boxes being given away with a packet of cornflakes these days. However, it's about the same sort of price I paid for Sony notebooks in the 90's. The big difference is that this runs OSX. Having suffered Microsoft's various O/S' since Windows first came out I took the plunge with OSX about a year ago and never intend to go back (OK I have to at work but not at home ...)

Anyhow I finally dumped my Windows laptop but couldn't decide on whether to go for a Pro or the new Air. I liked the idea of some of the feature set of the ipad (instant on, solid state memory), but with a desktop O/S, so after much soul searching and saving every available penny I bought an Air.

When you get it, it's beautifully presented (some expensive hifi manufacturers could learn a thing or two) and when you take it...

The Macbook Air is a beautiful piece of engineering by Apple. It is ultra thin and stylish in a compact light form. I would describe it as the supermodel of note books in terms of design.
Below the surface however is a dual core 1.86ghz processer which is rather old tech with a 128gb solid state flash drive and 2gb of ram.(I would upgrade to 4gb of ram as this is soldered onto the board and is non upgradable once purchased)

The machine is lightning fast on boot up. It takes less then 14 seconds to boot up in both mac o/s and Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium, Full Version (PC DVD), 1 User installed in bootcamp with lots of additional software installed on the mac.(bootcamp allows you to install the windows operating system on a partioned drive its easy to set up with the bootcamp assistant on mac o/s)...

As a long time PC user, I was persuaded to think Mac by people I work with who claimed that despite the price, I wouldn't be disappointed, and switching would be easier than is touted (especially by Microsoft).

I'm pleased to say that I am more than happy. The hardware is fantastic, the battery life is superb (although the 'up to 9 hours' claim is a bit wide of the mark - I get 6 max) and having worked with Linux, I got around the Mac way of doing things pretty quickly. The bundled Mac software is great, and anyone who has scratched their heads getting rules in Outlook on Windows to behave will be amazed how straight forward it is in Mail. Time Machine creates incremental backups to my Western Digital My World NAS box, and I have pretty much found Mac equivalent to all the PC software I used to run.

I am not a computer boffin and there are just a few things I am interested about:

1) reliability, my macbook is more than 2 years old and it performs exactly like the 1st day I bought it (actually better now with Leopard Snow OS).
2) durability: no comment see above
3) user friendliness: all Mac apps are user-oriented and it's child's play to operate them. However, the documents generated are so much more professional, precise in design and absolutely professional, compared to hesistant, complex and unreliable on my work windows based laptop.
Creating a network is plug and play and I am sorry for Windows fans but I have no interest whatsoever in becoming a computer engineer to operate a laptop and a wifi network and I m not interested in failures in DLL and why they messed up my laptop like all laptops I had before. it just should not happen, simple!

This is my first experience of a Mac after many years of using PCs.

I was a little bit daunted by the prospect of using a completely different operating system after years of using Windows, but it doesn't take very long to get used to it, and when you do, it is so logical and straightforward. I wondered how I'd ever managed without it.

The build is superb, but at a price in my opinion. I have the 15.4" MacBook, and whilst it is absolutely gorgeous, it is rather heavy - I certainly wouldn't want to be carrying it around on a daily basis. I suppose if weight were a major issue, then the 13" version may be the way to go. There are a few minor niggles such as certain functions on the keyboard being different to what I'm used to (no delete key) and symbols in a different place (@)...

Review 2 : Quad-core workstation performance comes to the MacBook Pro
I am reviewing the quad-core i7 MacBook Pro after two weeks of use. This is my third 15.4" model in the last two years: I follow a strategy of upgrading my MacBook Pro as often as possible, and selling on my previous model immediately. Given the good re-sale values of Apple products, it makes some sense (the small premium for doing this compared to upgrading after several years is the price to be paid for always having the most capable&productive machine available for my business).

I bought mine with the 7200rpm 500GB HDD, 8GB of 1333MHz RAM and the optional 2.3GHz processor (comes with 8MB of L3 cache).

I am going to restrict this review to the differences I experience between this and my previous model (a 2.66GHz dual-core i7 with 8GB of 1066MHz RAM and a 7200rpm 500GB HDD, also reviewed on Amazon):

It takes a second once you open the lid to be surfing wirelessly, no PC can do that... Battery lasts forever, again a lot better than any PC laptop I've ever had. The software you get preloaded is excellent, especially Garage Band and iMove. iMovie has loads of special effects build in, like Chroma Keying (green screen) and the speed of the i7 dual core means no waiting. I did purchase Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac as nothing comes supplied that give you the same apps. Very expensive but worth every penny.

Review 2 : Despite a few disadvantages, it's still the best 13" laptop
Having bought a 13" MacBook Pro when they first came out in 2009, I've just replaced it with this model.

The Dual Core 2.7 Ghz i7 chip is a significant step-up from the previous Core 2 Duo. Indeed, many computer magazines are saying that this latest generation chipset represents a much more significant increase in processor power than previous speed bumps. You'll notice that programs run significantly faster. I went for the MacBook Pro with the i7 chip, which is the slightly more expensive of the two 13" models, because i wanted a visible upgrade in computing power. I wasn't disappointed. This thing is lightning fast when running MS Office programs like Word, PowerPoint and Excel. While speed has gone up, the price of this model has remained the same.

The new generation of Intel chips used by Apple (codename Sandy Bridge) now has Intel's own graphics processor onboard instead of a third-party one. (if you want a discrete graphics processor, then you'll need to...
