Excellent value for money laptop
I purchased this laptop to replace an eight year old Dell desktop that had only 512MB of RAM and an 80GB hard drive. The Dell has given me trouble-free service over the years, but has now become so slow as to be almost unusable. It cost me over 800 euros in 2004, whereas this much higher specified laptop cost me a little over 500 euros.

I use a pc only for web browsing, sending e-mails, listening to music, Skype and a little word processing. This Samsung laptop has more than enough resources for all these duties. For gamers and those who do video editing a more powerful model would be required. It was bought to be a desktop replacement, I already have a netbook for travelling, hence the 17.3 inch screen. As it will never leave the home, the modest battery life and heavy weight are of no concern.

The build quality appears to be good, with no flex evident in the keyboard and palm rest area. Its silver and black coloured trim looks attractive to my eyes. The outside...

Review 2 : Stunning value
The price/performance of this laptop is stunning. It offers a 17.3" screen, a generous 6GB RAM and a 750GB hard drive. The quality of construction is very good; unlike many brands, the palm rest and keyboard do not flex and everything feels solid and well made without compromise. It's a really professional looking piece of kit, too, finished in silver and black and without the wierd & wacky patterns that some manufacturers go in for. I physically compared the Samsung against broadly comparable laptops from Acer, Asus, Toshiba and Lenovo and at this price point it was noticeably superior.

There is a choice of processor: basically an 'old style' dual-core Pentium, a quad-core AMD (the model purchased) or an Intel Core i. The AMD offers a good compromise between the two and returns a Windows Experience of 5.8, with the processor rated at 6.7.
