Without doubt the best computer I've ever owned. It just does what I want without any of the fuss associated with normal run of the mill PCs. I can finally get on with my work now instead of re-building a windows installation every six months.

I have a friend who mumbles on about 'closed systems' and refuses to acknowledge Apple computers for anything other than looks but the truth is that Macs are the computer for the 'rest of us'. By that I mean people who don't want to be stuck in a room for hours on end making stuff work and fixing system conflicts. People who take no 'geeky' satisfaction from hi-tech traumas.

Even this basic system happily runs the latest applications like Photoshop CS3 without any problems. It will open and happily apply processor heavy filters to 300dpi images without even breaking a sweat.

Review 2 : Cool machine
I'm a recent convert from Windows to MacOS. A little strange at first, but I become more enthusiastic each day. MacOS is very intuitive, and everything "just works".

This laptop is loaded with a good spec, and runs more quickly and seamlessly than any other computer I've used. Lovely to look at, light, easy to transport and use, and a good set of software to start you off. Handles multiple applications without any effort.

Only downside - and loses a star - overpriced in UK compared to abroad. Bought mine abroad and saved

I actually have the model which preceded this one (2.66Ghz i7) which I purchased as a desktop replacement -- the first time in thirty years of computer ownership that I haven't owned a desktop machine. I'm a designer and this laptop chews through heavy duty print design -- magazines. books running to a hundred-plus pages, A3 Photoshop documents, it makes short work of them all. I'm not a gamer, so I can't speak to its gaming performance, but for all other tasks, honestly, unless you're rendering professional-standard CGI footage or editing broadcast-quality video, there's nothing this machine can't do for you.

Real world battery life is 5-6 hours of browsing and e-mail on wifi plus a little light WP work -- I recently put the machine under a full graphic design load and it provided four hours of continuous use, including driving a graphics tablet.

For a start, the MacBook takes less time to turn on (I've counted about 30 seconds) and less time to turn off (about 5 seconds). The MacBook also connects to the internet faster, loads web pages faster etc. Although I liked the design of Windows Vista, I also like the design of the Snow Leopard operating system. The systems are quite different but I found that it didn't take me very long to get used to the difference. At the bottom of the screen is the "dock", which does let you open your programmes faster and easier. You know their opening as their icon jumps up and down. I found this a nice design feature but no real advantage over Microsoft. Another big difference is the "menu" bar. Instead of being attached to the window like it used to be, the bar is permanently fixed to the top of the screen, so this may mean a lot of minimising to get the window you want which is behind...

Review 2 : Just AWESOME!
I haven't bought a new Mac for 9 years, but had to upgrade my creaking, ageing Titanium PowerBook from 2001. Quite simply, this is an awesome machine (as I knew it would be!). With a more than adequate 2Gb RAM and 250Gb hard drive coupled with the 2.26Ghz dual processor, this little MacBook really delivers.

The thing that has impressed me most though was the speed with which it set-up and connected to the internet. It immediately found my wireless hub, I selected it and entered my password and that was it. The email was just as easy. I think I was online in about 2 minutes. Literally.

Apple consistently offer fantastic products which are designed right down to the last detail and this MacBook is no different.

Review 2 : Deceptively satisfying
Having used a 1st gen MacBook Air (launched c. 2008), I was very pleasantly surprised by this model. Stunned even.

I have had this for six weeks and it remains super-snappy and responsive. The onboard SSD makes a huge difference and the modest 2GB seems plenty, somehow. (On my Mac Mini I have 8GB of RAM, it has a spinning hard drive and it is better than this for things like casual web surfing & word processing)

This isn't cheap, but it's good value. If someone in your household/family is in school, you may just qualify for an educational discount, if you order by phone or online from the Apple Education Store. That said, every now and then, Amazon reduces the price even further so it's an idea to keep checking this page.

This is the future of laptops. If you travel a lot on planes, this is a delight to have.

I first started using Macs in the late 80's. At work I used a Mac SEII; a funny box like thing. In the early 90's I bought a Mac for my home computer, can't remember the type; one with a separate CPU. Both computers and associated software were miles ahead of any of MS Dos PC computer I used at work. Practically everything about them felt like Apple had a foot in the future and an in depth understanding of what users wanted and how to make it easy. I was an "Apple-bore". Anywhere I worked I advocated that we used Apples.

In the mid/late 90's I had to buy a PC, I got a Dell laptop, which - I thought - worked adequately. In late 2006 it died. I excitedly started reviewing the current Apple Macs and their spec.s for one I would purchase now I no longer was obliged to have a PC. Following a few trials in Apple resellers this (or its forerunner) was the one I chose.

I'm sitting here writing this review on my new Apple Macbook and after the two nonsensical bad reviews below, I'd like to redress the balance.

This is an awesome laptop.

I'm already a big Apple Mac fan after making the slightly scary switch from a Windows PC to an Apple iMac a couple of years ago. Generally I have never once regretted it and I really feel like I'm slumming it if I have to use a Windows PC for any reason. Mac OSX is truly a more intuitive, user friendly and more reliable platform than the clunky, crash prone Windows.

I still, however, have a few slight issues about moving to Mac OSX. One is that although Microsoft Office for Mac allows you to open Powerpoint documents, it doesn't support ActiveX so some interactive features don't work. A minor niggle for most, but I'm a teacher and until now my presentations haven't been as good as they should have been. Another problem is that some programs still aren't released on Mac. To put this in context my dad worked for Digital (DEC) when I was a child and I first started using PC's at the age of 3. I got my first PC at about 11 or 12, a 486 with (gasp!) a CD-ROM drive that took three days to install. Ok I love Macs. This is the latest update to macbook pro series. It has all the functions you need , usb3.0,thunderbolt, sdxc fast card reader,and a very fast i5 cpu.

I upgrade it in day 1 with an ssd Samsung 830 128gb , which already use in my mac mini, and gives tremendous power to this macbook.

Later if I find Samsung ram ddr3 1600 I will upgrade also to 8 or 16gb.

Totally an amazing macbook if you compare it with an ssd.

I have been using Linux for home use for the best part of six to seven years, Linux Mint in particular, as M$ Windows in any disguise just does not cut it in terms of performance or reliability, which is why I switched.
